The eighth annual meeting of the International Political Economy Society will be held October 25-26, 2013 at the Claremont Graduate School. The conference program is available here.
As you may know, IPES is scheduled in 30 minute blocks. All presentations will be strictly held to a maximum of 12 minutes, with 15 minutes for questions from the floor. This then leaves three minutes to pass from room to room between presentations. Because of the need to keep all three rooms on the same time schedule, time limits are tightly enforced.
The meeting will be held in the 1st floor of the Burkle Building located at 1021 N. Dartmouth Ave, Claremont.
The building is home of the Drucker/Ito Graduate School of Management and is equipped with multimedia capabilities.
Air Destination & Transportation
1. Ontario International Airport (ONT): 10 miles from Claremont.
Flights Available: Alaska, American, Continental, Delta, Southwest, United Airlines/United Express, US Airways
The Ontario International Airport (ONT) is the closest airport to Claremont located about 10 miles east close to Interstate-10 freeway.
ONT is a full-service airport with commercial jets. ONT has service to all major U.S. cities. While ONT is the most attractive it provides relatively limited airlines serving it so some of you may choose to fly into LAX or Long Beach airport.
Taxi from ONT to the Doubletree is $30-35 and takes about 15 minutes.
1.a Directions to Hotel
From Ontario Airport to Doubletree Hotel: Take I-10 West about 7 miles to Indian Hill Blvd (exit 47). Proceed north 2 miles and turn left onto Foothill Blvd. Hotel is 1 block on your right (see map below). Super Shuttle (http://www.supershuttle.com) is available and the main destination is the Claremont Doubletree Hotel.
2. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX): 50 miles from Claremont
Flights Available: Most major domestic and international airlines
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is relatively distant from Claremont located 50 miles from campus.
For some this will be the most convenient option because most major airlines serve LAX.
2.a Directions to Hotel
From Los Angeles Airport to the Doubletree Hotel: Take I-105 East about 17.1 miles. Exit onto I-605 N and proceed north about 12.6 miles. Exit onto I-10 E (toward San Bernardino) and proceed east about 16.7 miles to Indian Hill Blvd (exit 47). Proceed north 2 miles and turn left onto Foothill Blvd. Hotel is 1 block on your right (see map below). Super Shuttle (http://www.supershuttle.com) is available and the main destination is the Claremont Doubletree Hotel. If possible avoid rush hours (4-7pm). Taxi is expensive.
3. Long Beach Airport (LGB): 45 miles from Claremont
Flights Available: Alaska, Delta, JetBlue, US Airways
The Long Beach Airport has less service compared with LAX or ONT but it is a very attractive option because of its small size and less crowding.. JetBlue provides daily non-stops to Chicago, New York, Washington DC, Boston, Rochester, Austin and so on. LGB is located about 45 miles or one hour from campus.
3.a Directions to Hotel
From Long Beach Airport to Doubletree Hotel: Take I-405 East about 3 miles. Exit onto I-605 N and proceed north about 21.8 miles.
Claremont can also be reached by train with commuter rail service to and from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. The railroad station is located on 1st Street between Yale and College Aves., about 10 blocks from the Burkle Building and 13 blocks from the Double Three Hotel. This is a great connection if you are staying in Los Angeles and wish to beat the traffic. Other public transportation is virtually non-existent in Southern California. For drivers, car rental is the most viable option and relatively inexpensive (Especially, from LAX or LGB, car rental is strongly recommended).
